The surgery has recently undergone refurbishment, at the moment it feels very cold and not welcoming. Chairs are nut arranged well in the waiting area , no magazines or literature to read, could o with a radio !

I think the surgery and the doctors there are excellent. It is easy to get an appointment and the online booking system is very good. The service offered to rural patients is excellent. In terms of improvement it would be good to let patients know if the doctors are running late with appointments. I also think that when a patient has an appointment the doctors should take the opportunity to review blood pressure and prescribed medicines. Overall and excellent practice, very well run.

Easy to get an appointment, online booking is great. All staff friendly Would be useful to know if your GP is running late, ie quick announcement

I find GPs I have visited in the UK appear passive in their approach. An example of what I mean is when attending for results of blood tests, I have been given the response 'levels are OK' with no further explanation unless prompted. Then have had to ask what were the results e.g. thyroid function and so on for 3 separate tests. Have not been offered a print out of results. This is not a reflection on Harold Road Surgery but appears to be the 'norm', Having previously lived in Australia for 40 years, I find the Health System here is so inferior. My GP there was definitely on the ball at all times and took the time to listen to what I had to say. Each person knows their own body and how they feel. They should not be fobbed off. I also think medication is over prescribed and rarely reviewed as to whether they are still necessary A GP visited my mother and brushed aside all my concerns and request for anti sickness medication. During his visit he did not take her temperature. One hour after he left, she was taken to hospital on the point of collapse with a temperature of 34.5 degrees and given a 50/50 chance of survival. GPs have a hard task but I think they need to listen - not everything is text book or black and white On another occasion when I asked a different GP to check my mother's legs, she said 'don't tell me what to do. I am the doctor not you'. She did NOT examine my mum's legs but asked her if she had any ulcers under the bandages. My mum said no and apparently that was good enough. Thankfully neither of these GPs are practicing any more. A friend of mine has recently returned to Australia to live after 3 years in the UK. Part of her reason is better medical treatment. She had mentioned several times to her GP in the UK about her legs being shaky - the GP said she didn't know what that could be? The GP in Australia immediately sent her for tests and made an appointment for her to see a Neurologist to find the cause with the possibility of onset of Parkinson's disease. Bottom Line: Patients matter. Listen to their concerns. Ask questions and check history thoroughly. The views expressed above are not a criticism of Harold Road Surgery per se - just general observations and concerns on the health system.

There needs to be something visual on the walls for the deaf people. I know that I don't struggle to understand when my name's being called out. My old surgery in London had it and it was really useful.
